Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 / AET Level 4 certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Ability to read and write
  • At least 1 year of porter experience in a hospital environment (advantageous)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of Batho Pele Principles
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Capable of working under pressure
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with loading and offloading patients from ambulances and private vehicles
  • Escort walking patients from reception or casualty to wards and other service areas
  • Transport patients using wheelchairs or stretchers
  • Support nursing staff with transferring patients between wards
  • Deliver patient files and medical documents to relevant departments
  • Transfer deceased patients from wards to the mortuary and assist with placement
  • Clean and maintain porter equipment (wheelchairs and stretchers)
  • Report damaged equipment and ensure proper handling
