The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is inviting applications for the 12-month UIF ITR Learnership Programme, which is funded through the UIF Labour Activation Programme (LAP).

Successful applicants will take part in a 12-month learnership designed to provide practical workplace experience and accredited training.

Duration: 12 months
What Is the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)?
The Unemployment Insurance Fund provides short-term financial relief to workers who become unemployed or are temporarily unable to work. UIF benefits may also apply in certain family-related or health-related situations.
Workers may claim UIF in cases such as:
- Maternity leave
- Adoption leave
- Parental leave
- Illness
- Death of a contributor, where benefits may be paid to dependants
Who Does Not Contribute to UIF?
An employee does not contribute to UIF if they:
- Work less than 24 hours per month for an employer
- Are employed in the national or provincial sphere of government
- Hold office as President, Deputy President, Minister, Deputy Minister, or Member of Parliament
- Serve as a member of a municipal council or traditional leadership structure
Employer UIF Registration Requirements
Employers must register with the UIF Commissioner’s Office if they:
- Do not need to register with SARS for Employees’ Tax
- Have not voluntarily registered with SARS as an employer
- Are not liable to pay the Skills Development Levy
- Pay, or are liable to pay, remuneration to employees
Employers are also required to make monthly UIF contributions.
