Toyota: Learner Maintenance (Unemployed – Production Programme)


Overview
Toyota South Africa Motors is offering a structured learnership opportunity aimed at unemployed individuals interested in developing technical skills in a manufacturing and maintenance environment. The programme is based at the Prospecton facility in Durban and combines theoretical learning with hands-on practical training. It provides an excellent pathway into the automotive industry while equipping learners with nationally recognised competencies.

What the Programme Involves

  • Working collaboratively as part of a production and maintenance team.
  • Learning to use hand tools correctly and safely while following strict workshop safety practices.
  • Reading and understanding engineering or manufacturing drawings.
  • Performing marking-off and basic welding tasks where applicable.
  • Operating, monitoring and supporting the use of machinery and production equipment.
  • Preparing work surfaces and materials as required for maintenance tasks.
  • Assisting with production operations, including dispatch activities.
  • Completing basic fire-safety and firefighting training.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following academic criteria:

  • National Technical Certificate (N3 – N6), OR
  • Matric / Technical Matric that includes Mathematics and Physical Science or Engineering Science.
    Relevant theoretical subjects such as Electrical Theory, Mechanical/Motor Trade Theory, Mechanical Drawing or Graphic Design are beneficial.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Good planning, organisational skills and adaptability.
  • Analytical thinking with good attention to detail.
  • Determination, willingness to learn and ability to gather and process information accurately.

Upon successful completion of the programme, learners will achieve a qualification at NQF Level 3.
